If you have been looking for the best Mediterranean food in the East Valley, you probably already know the name: Green Corner Restaurant. Since opening in Mesa in 2016, this family-owned spot has kept locals coming back with fresh, made-from-scratch cooking and a menu that delivers every single time. And now, with a brand new Tempe location just opened right near ASU, even more of the Valley gets to enjoy it.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Green Corner is actually pretty simple. The original Mesa restaurant was in the corner of a shopping center, and green represents the kind of food they serve: fresh, healthy, and made with real ingredients. Chef-owner Ebrahim Takkem, a native of Syria with over 15 years of culinary experience, and his nephew Ashraf Abu Sharkh, who moved to Arizona from Jordan in 2014, built the restaurant around cooking rooted in Levantine traditions from Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.
Their story is straightforward: two family members who wanted better Mediterranean food in the Valley and decided to make it themselves. In six months of opening, they were already overwhelmed with customers.
What Is Actually on the Menu?
Green Corner’s menu is focused, familiar, and done right. Everything is prepped fresh every single day, and the portions are generous enough that taking leftovers home is basically part of the experience.
Here is what you can order:
-
Chicken, beef, and lamb kabobs served with rice, Greek salad, hummus, and pita
-
Shawarma wraps with house-made sauces and warm pita bread
-
Gyros piled high and served hot
-
Falafel, hummus, and kibbeh for vegetarian and vegan eaters
-
Knafeh, a syrup-soaked cheese pastry baked in large sheet pans
-
French fries that regulars genuinely rave about
-
A complimentary piece of freshly-baked baklava with every combo meal
Yes, every combo comes with free baklava. And yes, it is worth the trip for that alone.
Why the East Valley Keeps Showing Up
There are plenty of Mediterranean options around Phoenix, but Green Corner has earned a 4.7-star rating across thousands of reviews for one core reason: consistency. The food tastes the same on every visit because the same fresh prep routine happens every single morning. Meats are marinated daily, vegetables are chopped to order, and nothing sits around waiting.
It is fast casual in format but genuinely chef-prepared in quality. That combination is hard to find anywhere in the Valley, and it explains why the lunch line at the Mesa location has never really slowed down.
Tempe, Your Wait Is Finally Over
If you live, work, or study near Arizona State University, the newest Green Corner just opened steps from campus. Green Corner Tempe is now open at 777 S College Ave, right at the corner of College Avenue and Seventh Street, making it the brand’s fourth Valley location. Expect the same full menu, the same fresh prep, and the same generous portions that made Mesa and Chandler such strong regulars.
